First off, the turkey. While you could go old-fashioned with an oven-cooked meal, one-day searches have soared on the crispy kind: Many may well find a deep-fried fowl on their Thanksgiving table. Queries on the delightful sounding "cajun deep fried turkey recipes" skyrocketed over 1,000%. "Turkey brine" is also popular, as is "roasted turkey recipe." But hey, even searches on "tofurkey," the "bird" carved from soybeans, are big right now. PETA would be proud..
By 9 p.m. Wednesday, 785,000 people had looked up turkey recipes at Allrecipes.com. For most of the day, the site was handling one million page views an hour.
“We built server capacity for the day before Thanksgiving, then use only 50 percent of it the rest of the year,” said Lisa Sharples, president of the site, which is based in Seattle.
For the last five years, Google searches for Thanksgiving recipes have climbed steadily, doubling from 2007 to 2008, according to results from Insights for Search, a tool that indexes the capacity of Google search trends. . .

This week, Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis squared off against a common foe: Dave Wannstedt of Pittsburgh.
For Wannstedt, college football was his last chance to be a head coach.
the NFL offensive mastermind returning to coach his alma mater.
In the fall of 2005, Weis and Wannstedt actually began their college head-coaching careers against each other.
Wannstedt has improved his team, slowly but steadily, over the past five seasons.
But then something strange happened: Pitt pulled it together and eked out a victory.. What do Florida Fans think about that.
Wannstedt and Weis are moving in different directions, like two ships passing in the night..

Great American Smokeout
The Great American Smokeout 2009 is today and a spokesperson for the Iowa Chapter of the American Cancer Society is question smokers to take a varied draw near to the yearly event. A-C-S spokesman Chuck Reed says they are encouraging smokers to use the day as a starting point to the end.

The Dolphins season nearly came to an end earlier today.
It won’t be long the way things looked during a 25-23 win against the Tampa Bay Bucs.
Rookie Kory Sperry, who was promoted Saturday from the practice squad, was one of the surprises of the day (three catches, 31 yards, 1 TD).
He was out because of a coach’s decision, but Charlie Anderson and Cam Wake stepped in and combined for two sacks.
On the second one, Henne threw Bess open while the defender’s back was turned, a quality coach Tony Sparano praised in Drew Brees a few weeks back.
Tampa Bay’s TD makes 96 points scored against Miami in the fourth quarter, second-worst in the NFL to Buffalo (101, including 24 Sunday).
Running back Ricky Williams had a big day, finishing with 102 rushing yards, capped by a 27-yard scamper to set up the game-winning FG.
1. Running back Lex Hilliard is likely to get his chance this week. But with no carries this season, will Hilliard be ready?
It was performances like that that earned him a spot on the Miami roster, though to be fair he’s retained it until now with strong special teams play.
Miami will need a strong running game against Carolina, whose own running game entered this week’s games leading the NFC in rushing. Just as Brown and Ricky Williams were a great 1-2 punch, Hilliard and Williams make for a tandem that could pound away at a Carolina run defense, which was ranked 23rd entering the weekend.
2. Linebacker Charlie Anderson made a bigger impact than Joey Porter has all season. But Anderson’s inconsistency, not his talent, has held him back.
{Anderson stepped in for Porter and had one of his best games in two seasons as a Dolphin, with five solo tackles, including a sack, and two forced fumbles.
Anderson, a sixth-year pro, showed big-time flashes a few times a season ago, highlighted by his performance in Toronto against Buffalo (four solos, a sack, two FFs). He followed it with nice outing against San Francisco, including a key sack late in the game.
A season ago, he led the team in penalties for much of the season. On Sunday, he was called for facemask on the second play of the game.
3. Kicker Dan Carpenter answered the challenge of training camp nemesis Connor Barth.
The Dolphins signed Barth during training camp to push Carpenter, who was struggling and admitted he was too focused on mechanics.
But Carpenter finished with four field goals, including the game winner. Hard to argue with that.

Insurance companies are not required to notify the state or customers unless they plan to completely cease writing policies or drop at least 1,000 policies. Notification is not required to close offices.

From the 1960s to the 1990s the education system in California was second to nobody. Population flocked to this big state so that their young people not only had admission to the K-12 system, but to a social university system that rivals the Ivy League.
The University of California system is a considerable player in the world of secondary education; however, with the latest budget cuts – and the plans for more – that may all be shifting. This is a contortion and will only work to tip the scales in the sinful direction.

Taylor Swift Country Music Association Awards 2009
On Wednesday evening, the country singer Taylor Swift stormed the Country Music Association Awards 2009 and took home whole 4 prizes for which Taylor was nominated, including the much-coveted Entertainer of the Year trophy.
While it seemed like a confirmation of Swift's success from the country music establishment, not all was pleased with the 19-year-old's win. Country music legend Wynonna Judd spoke out versus Swift's win, though she reversed her position on Thursday.
During an interview on the show's red carpet Wednesday night, the Country legend was asked what advice she would give to Swift. "You want my loyal advice? It's too much too soon," Wynonna said, according to USAToday.com. "Time is God's way of keeping all from happening at once. It's just too much of a good thing too soon. Mom and I rode in a vehicle for the first year of our career to visit radio stations. There was a making of the star, there was a rising-up, and the fans went with us. Now it's over coffee breaks, the success, almost."
But on Thursday, Judd clarified her stance on the message board of her official Web site. "I understand that my comment about Taylor Swift's Entertainer of the Year nomination came across as a negative statement," Wynonna wrote. "My intent was not to take anything away from her talent and contributions to the country music industry, all of which are truly unprecedented for an artist of any age. Taylor is a beautiful, hard-working young woman that deserves the success she has had and I support her as an artist and as a woman in the business."
